Alan Jackson: Country Music Star Pays Moving Tribute At CMA Awards

Country music legend Alan Jackson took the stage last night at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) in the AT & T stadium in Arlington, Texas, for "Where were you (when the world stopped turning)." Jackson was introduced by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman and according to The Boot Jackson played a slow acoustic version of his hit song and silence filled the audience moved.

Aikman Jackson and dedicated the song to the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing, which 20 years ago to the day happened on 19 April 1995. Alan Jackson played the silent crowd watched a backdrop of scenes flash atrocity on the big screen behind him. The tribute was all the more poignant because Jackson wrote the song as a tribute to those killed in the attack on the twin towers in New York on 11 September 2001. According to the Hollywood Reporter many in the audience were moved to tears by Jacksons performance.

Alan Jackson says he wrote the song in less than an hour, but he was just a "conduit" for the song. Jackson's performance was the exciting and fascinating. Obviously, awards are designed to be joyful and glad occasions, but many felt it was entirely appropriate for Jackson to take time to remember a solemn and tragic event.

As a veteran country star Alan Jackson is no stranger to the ACM awards, he has won no less than 18 gongs at the time but was not nominated this year. Jackson won the Best Male Vocalist three times and even co-hosted the star-studded party on one occasion in 1994.

As co-host of the event, Alan Jackson and his band created a stir after he was told he had to make his then newly released single, "Gone Country" to a backing track instead of having his band play I live. As Jackson performed on stage with his band, it was clear that the drummer played without sticks.

Alan Jackson now has more than a quarter century as a recording artist in his belt and, according Taste Of Country, Jackson is about to release a new album, his first for three years. Jackson's new album will be called angels and spirit, and is scheduled for release in July. This is the fifteenth studio album by Alan Jackson and he wrote October 7 songs on the album.
